Fact:*
  • One out of two births are to single mothers.
  • One out of six births are to teen mothers.
  • 2002 number of legally induced abortions in New Mexico was 4865. Just over 1/3 of the abortions were obtained by women 20-24 years old.
  • Birth rate was 14.8 in 2003.
  • 48.5% of 2003 New Mexico live births were to single mothers.
  • 2002 Abortions—33.6% were ages 20-24; 20.1% were ages 25-29; 20.9% were ages 15-19
  • 2002 Abortions—14.7% were married; 84.7% were single

Fact:*
  • 12 million Americans are infected each year with a sexually transmitted disease.
  • The highest STD infection rate is among those in their teens and early twenties.
  • 800,000 to 900,000 Americans are living with HIV, with one-third of them unaware that they are even infected.
  • Unintended pregnancy accounts for nearly one-half of all pregnancies in the United States.
  • Approximately 1/2 of all teen pregnancies end by abortion.
  • An estimated 1.3 million abortions were performed in 2000.
